5 Awesome Apps for Runners

It’s not always easy to find the motivation to go outside and run.

In fact, in the winter when the rain is falling and the wind is blowing, no one can be blamed too harshly for dreaming of a duvet on the sofa. A lounge day is fine once in a while, but to maintain a healthy lifestyle it is paramount that everyone does a little exercise every day.

Light exercise can reduce the risk of many vascular diseases and is great for all round wellbeing and is more likely to help you live longer.

If you are in need of a little motivation, here are some great smart phone apps that will get you of the sofa and into your running shoes!

1)      The Couch to 5K (C25K) App

This is a great app for the beginner and is for the initial stages of motivation. The app runs for an eight week period and allows the exercise-novice to find their stride, build stamina and strength.

The app allows for three days a week worth of exercise and reminds the user when to walk, run and cool-down.

2)      The  Running Club App

If you are the type of runner who enjoys camaraderie and motivation from others, you will love this app.

It allows you to schedule runs with others, whether it be friends, family or even complete strangers. As long as they are users of the app, you can hook up and run together virtually. You can also search for marathons and fun runs in your area.

3)      The Adidas MiCoach App

The MiCoach app may be better for the more experienced runner as it allows the user to input height, weight and average speed and produces a bespoke exercise plan based on the strengths of the runner.

You can also keep up with your progress as the app instantly uploads your information at the corresponding website.

4)      Upbeat Workouts for Runners

If, like many runners, you enjoy listening to music while you run, the Upbeat Workouts app has everything you need. The app automatically matches music from your library to your stride which is great for motivation and stamina.

5)      The Nike+ Running App

Many runners have their routes planned and know exactly the distance they have run and how long it has taken them. If you are the type of runner who would rather just hit the open road and go cross country, this may be the app for you. It has GPS tracking that means it counts the miles and minutes so you don’t have to!
